Grant Strategy, Writing & Development
The Work.
Senior grant strategy, proposal writing, and development, for nonprofits ready to be taken seriously by institutional funders.
Why Her
A background unusual for this work.
Years in senior insurance leadership taught me to write to boards and structure large dollar proposals with fiduciary precision. In 2018 I began formal training in grant writing. Today I serve as California Director of the Operation Prom National Network, where I founded and run the Prom Makeover Initiative.
I write across education, youth development, social services, green infrastructure, and workforce partnerships, working selectively and in particular with nonprofits led by women and founders of color whose missions are too often underestimated by traditional funders.
Who I Work With
The practice is selective. The best engagements share three things.
i.
The Organization
Small to midsize nonprofits, typically with annual budgets between $125K and $5M, with a mission that is clear and a program that is ready.
ii.
The Leadership
Executive directors, development directors, and board chairs who know their mission cold and want a strategic partner, not a templated writer.
iii.
The Mindset
Leaders who see funding as a long term build rather than the next deadline, and who want their mission read in its strongest possible language.
Practice Areas
Each service can be engaged on its own or as part of a full development partnership. Every engagement begins with a conversation to confirm fit in both directions.
Funder Research & Prospect Mapping
A tailored funder landscape report. Foundation, corporate, and government prospects ranked by fit, giving capacity, and likelihood of a yes.
Grant Strategy Sessions
Executive level, multiyear funder strategy built with boards, executive directors, and development teams. Aligned to your organizational plan, not just the next deadline.
Letters of Inquiry
Concise LOIs calibrated to each funder's stated priorities and unstated preferences, written to earn the invitation to a full proposal, not merely to submit one.
Full Proposal Development
End to end development for foundation, corporate, and government grants. Program design consultation, narrative architecture, outcomes framing, budget alignment, attachment management, and compliance review, submitted on your behalf.
Budget Narratives & Logic Models
Program budgets with full justification narratives, and logic models connecting inputs, activities, outputs, and outcomes in the structure funders actually review against, never a generic template.
Post-Award Compliance & Reporting
Interim and final report drafting, budget-to-actual reconciliations, compliance review, and funder calendars. Most nonprofits win a grant and quietly lose the funder by year two. I stay engaged so the award becomes a lasting relationship.
Government Grant Writing
Federal, state, and local grants, including the Department of Education, Health and Human Services, Department of Labor, California agencies, and municipal streams. Full engagement: registration, compliance, narrative, budget forms, and submission through the correct portal.
Capacity Building Advisory
A senior, embedded role for nonprofits without a full-time development director, or growing one from within. I mentor staff, review their work, build the internal systems your grants operation needs, and design the engagement so you eventually no longer need me.
Capability Statements & Collateral
Capability statements, program one pagers, organizational profiles, and funder briefing documents, written to the conventions funders expect and designed to live alongside your proposals as a coherent development library.
